Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I’m trying to conceive and have been monitoring my cycle carefully. I know when I ovulated and I made sure to have plenty of sex around that time. It’s been almost two weeks and I just took a urine test that says I’m not pregnant. Could it be a false negative?

Yes. Wait a couple days, hard as it is, and then try peeing on another stick. Most tests are quite accurate, and claim that they can be used even before you miss your period. The truth is, they may not work until the day your period is due, or even after. The tests are designed to detect the presence of hCG, a hormone the placenta releases after conception. But everyone’s levels vary, and your test might not be sensitive enough to detect the amount of hCG in your system. Or, you may have ovulated a few days later than you thought. You may even have had a faulty or expired test. To decrease the risk of a false negative, test first thing in the morning -- your urine will be more concentrated at this time since it's been collecting in your bladder all night long. If it's still negative, hang in there and try again in a few days -- this time, you may get the result you’re hoping for!

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I am 13 days overdue for my period and am still testing negative. Not sure what is going on. I have heard that some women just won't test positive for several weeks due to lower hcg levels. If I am pg and have lower hcg levels, am I at a higher risk for a miscarriage?

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

Im actually going threw the same thing. I didnt get my period at all in August and now we are in september. The entire month of August and the til yesterday (sept 2) I been vomiting everything I eat and drink. I even vomit water I also been nauses and I get a bit dizzy too. I so far have taken 5 urne test and they all come out negative. I went to the doctor 2 days ago and on the urne it still came out negative. She said to wait 2 weeks to see if I get my period and if not to come back. My question is the following should I wait for those 2 weeks to see if I get my period or should I take a 6th pregnancy test around the time I get my period which is the 7th. And my 2nd question is that my co-workers are telling me that I have the face of a pregnant woman, now I wanna know how that face looks like because I really dont know lol.

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I am wondering if it is possible for some women to not test positive on a urine pregnancy test. Like the responses I've read I'm experiencing the same problems. I have been ttc all summer. I have taken countless home pregnancy tests and they ALL were negative despite being 21 days over due, having very sore breast for a weeks, nausea, fatigue, and a very firm abdomen. When I go for my appointment next week I'm going to insist on having a blood test. It might be my luck that I am pregnant despite the false negatives. I'm praying that's what it is and not something else.!

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

If you do have low Hcg levels I suggest a blood test. Those can detect the lowest of levels.

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I am going through the same thing. I am 10 days late and still coming up negative. You need to talk to your doctor about doing a blood test. I just had mine yesterday so fingers crossed for a positive.

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I am also going through the same thing. I've missed two periods now. Almost 5 weeks late. I've had 2 neg hpt, 1 neg blood test (two weeks ago) and another neg hpt today. I've never missed and am regular, give or take a couple days. I have found so many stories online of false negatives for weeks/months but then they don't follow up. Wish we could hear women's outcomes after going so long with no af and neg tests.

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

As a heads up, I'm not saying you're definitely not pregnant, but it's possible to miss a period and not be pregnant. Stress can cause missed periods, *especially* if you've been TTC for a while and you REALLY want a baby. As for the pregnancy symptoms, the same mechanism as the placebo effect can kick in - your desire for a baby can be strong enough that you start showing symptoms of pregnancy. http://blogs.webmd.com/womens-health/2007/09/feel-pregnant-but-pregnancy-test-is.html

Q&A: False negative on pregnancy tests?

I took a test when I was about a week late, still thinking I was going to get my period since I was feeling crampy (boy was I wrong!) and the result was negative. Cramping continued for 2 more weeks without AF, and I took another one (and another one, and another one...) all positive. Then the preg symptoms came full on and based on how I was feeling and after my first doctor's consult, I was told that it isn't uncommon for you to have a false negative even a week or more after a missed period. She said that some people (like me, hopefully you too) don't have high enough levels of the specific type of hormone that HPT detects and sometimes it will even take a blood test to know for sure. Good Luck
