Q&A: Danger of vaccines while trying to get pregnant?

My husband and I will be TTC soon and are planning a trip to an area where we’ll need to have a yellow fever vaccine. Can this be dangerous if we do conceive shortly after taking the vaccine?

Re: My husband and I will be TTC soon and are planning a trip to an area where we’ll need to have a yellow fever vaccine. Can this be dangerous if we do conceive shortly after taking the vaccine?

The Bump Expert The yellow fever vaccination is what’s known as a live virus vaccine. A live virus vaccine is a vaccine that contains a living virus and is able to create immunity without getting the patient ill. Live virus sounds sort of creepy, but for people with healthy immune systems, they’re usually safe and effective. While it’s recommended to wait a month after receiving live vaccines before trying to conceive, the CDC says that two weeks is a safe waiting period after the yellow fever vaccination. Although the yellow fever vaccine isn’t known to cause any birth defects in pregnant women, the CDC recommends pregnant and breastfeeding women avoid traveling to countries where yellow fever is a risk.

measles vaccine

I know my daughter had the measles mumps rubella vaccines as a child, but now she shows no immunity to measles. She wants to get pregnant soon. Should she have a measles vaccine?

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

I just went to my OB/GYN for a "preconception visit" and she did a blood panel specifically testing for certain immunities like MMR. i still have protection against the disease, but i would imagine she tested me to know whether or not i needed a booster. your daughter's doc will be able to make the right decision :) good luck to her!

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

After telling my doctor that we are TTC, I was tested for rubella immunity and I was not immune. I had all my vaccines as a child too, but they say this is happening a lot with 20-somethings. They just gave me a booster MMR shot and said to wait a month before trying again. It was no big deal at all.

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

I just went to my OB/GYN for a "preconception visit" as well and she told me to get tested for immunity to MMR. I had a low immunity to it, and she suggested I get the booster for it and wait a month as well. I know I had this vaccine as a child, but if it means a healthy baby, I'll do whatever I need to do.

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

I didn't realize this was an issue until I was talking to my sister-in-law who is in the medical profession. She told me to let my Ob know right away that I had never had the chicken pox as a child. My Ob-Gym ran tests for chiken pox & rubella and I came up not immune for both. I had my vaccines as a child. She said it was quite common to need a booster. So I have an appointment in 2 weeks with my primary care physician to get the vaccines. My Ob-Gyn told me to wait 3 months before trying to conceive

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

to redjudy0306i am 22 and i went to my ob/gyn for a consultation for pregnancy and vaccines, and even tho i had the mmr shots and everything i still had no immunity to chickenpox, which i have never had, and i was told to got the shots over again b/c if i came in contact with any of the sicknesses i could possibably contract the virus and it could poss harm baby....so yes i would get it....i was instructed to wait 3mths before ttc from the date of the shot.

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

This is exactly what happened to me. I was planning a trip to Ecuador and so I got the yellow fever vaccine, 4 days before I found out I was pregnant. We weren't ttc at this point, it just kind of happened and we were completely surprised. Our baby is now 4 months old and perfectly healthy. Although I would wait the recommended time by the CDC, this will save you months of worrying. I know I worried so much during the pregnancy b/c there have been some documented cases of birth defects in mothers who rcvd the yellow fever vaccine during pregnancy.

re: Q: TTC and vaccines?

My friend almost died from the yellow fever vaccine... They had 7 people that got the shot, she was the only one to survive because she looked up her symptoms and insisited that her doctor listen to her, which he finally did, and she was able to recieve (A LOT) of treatment! Be causious... be sure to look them up! Vaccines may not be all they are chalked up to be... do some research on your own. Check out Dr. Mayer Eisenstiens website, he is an MD, as well as MANY others that have a wealth of knowlegde in this field!

Q&A: Danger of vaccines while trying to get pregnant?

We will be TTC very soon and I have an appointment with my OBGYN next week. After reading this I am definitely going to ask him to check for my immunities for MMR. Even though I was vaccinated at age 2, when I went to visit my doctor last year, she had told me I was low on my immunity for mumps. I guess I would need a booster shot. I probably wouldn't be able to try to conceive until a month after the booster but it's definitely worth the wait!

Q&A: Danger of vaccines while trying to get pregnant?

Hi Moms and Dads.. i had a quick question for anyone who has some knowledge or experience about the above topic. I had to take the MMR before i even knew i was pregnant (found out 3 days later i was!) i looked up all the stuff on the internet about taking the live vaccine (mmr) during pregnancy and they all say it should be avoided in pregnancy and non pregnant woman may take it 28 days before getting pregnant ..There is no direct relation between autism and MMR vaccine!! why Autism in particular?? i need to know if anyone of you have any idea of having a problem with it if you (or your wife) took it during pregnancy? I am soo pissed of at the doctor who did not warn me about it or ask me to confirm if i was/was not pregnant before i got it. I am sooo worried about my baby i am 5 weeks pregnant! help!
