It’s been a pretty bad week of news for any would-be parents living by a major roadway. Not only did scientists find it can boost your risk of preterm delivery, but it’s also been linked to autism in small children. Apparently it’s all due to air pollution caused by the traffic on the freeways, which gathers in the homes and surrounding buildings. Mom defies doc, gives birth at home
How’s this for taking matters into your own hands: After three unwanted c-sections, one mom was determined to have the VBAC she always wanted for her fourth baby. But in doing so, she defied her doctor’s orders by failing to show up to her scheduled c-section and instead giving birth naturally in her home. CPSC officially bans drop-side cribs
After more than 30 deaths, years of public outcry, and the biggest year in baby gear recalls ever, the government finally issued a nation-wide recall of all drop-side cribs, regardless of the brand. The CPSC decided this in a unanimous vote, which blocks both the production and sale of drop-side cribs and officially goes into effect in June of 2011. But the new regulations don’t just end there – according to CNN, a spokesperson for the CPSC also let it be known that stronger mattresses, sturdier hardware, and more rigorous testing of cribs will be strongly enforced in the new year.
