The Ultimate Voyeur Delivery! Would You Ever Do This? Photo: Justine Cooper
Last week, we blogged about the mama-to-be who’s planning on broadcasting her labor on her website -- but we just heard about a performance artist who’s going one step further. Marni Kotak plans to give birth in front of an actual audience at a Brooklyn, New York, art gallery. According to CNN, Kotak transformed the Microscope Gallery into a birthing room with her grandmother’s bed and a rocking chair for the exhibit called “The Birth of Baby X.” Kotak is due to give birth this month, so the gallery has informed visitors about the possibility of witnessing a live birth. Kotak’s husband, a midwife and a doula will be there to assist her when she goes into labor -- and anyone can go watch, if it happens during the exhibit’s viewing hours. The project doesn’t stop at the birth, though. Kotak says that this is just the beginning of a longtime art piece called “Raising Baby X,” and it will follow her child’s life from birth through college. She plans to write memoirs about her experience and take photos for the project.
What do you think of this woman giving birth onstage? Would you go see the delivery?
