It’s Official: C-Section Rates Are At An All-Time High Photo: Veer / The Bump
We’ve talked a lot about how high current C-section rates are, compared to past decades, but they have continued to rise in recent years, now soaring to an all-time high. According to a report published by HeathGrades, from 2002 to 2009 the rate of C-sections increased from 27 to 34 percent. Of course, there are plenty of medical reasons a mom might need a C-section, but one of the most controversial practices is an elective C-section, where mom chooses a cesarean birth for purely personal reasons, not any medical ones. Doctors urge mamas to be educated on the serious risks of a C-section and, as always, to consult a physician and understand the risks and benefits of undergoing any major surgery.
