Most Working Moms Do Want to Work Photo: Comstock / The Bump
It turns out working moms actually like to be busy, according to a recent study in the February issue of Gender & Society. Karen Christopher, an associate professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Louisville interviewed 40 working mothers who had at least one child under five years old, and of the group, over half of the mothers had two kids. They found that the moms said they got more fulfillment through their careers and most of them said that they would work part time even if they didn’t have to.
And even though these women love their careers, they still are focused on their children. Many of them choose jobs that don’t require overtime or long hours. Some of the women had working mom guilt, but felt that their work was justified since it made them feel more fulfilled women and they felt it made them better mothers too.
