Parents Are Giving Their Kids Chicken Pox-Laced Lollipops! Seriously!
One would think that parents would want to keep their kids away from friends who have chicken pox, but some are actually making their kids hang out with their infected friends. Some moms and dads are throwing chicken pox parties -- that means sharing drinking cups and food to ensure that each child gets the pox. There are even lollipops laced with the virus that parents can give to their kids. We kid you not!
Why would parents do this? Some people believe that by exposing their children to the virus, they’ll have a higher degree of immunity than with the varicella vaccine and other booster shots. Hmmm… Before you jump on the bandwagon, think twice, parents! Medical experts believe that this method is not safe, because although chicken pox is a mild disease, you can never tell what kind of complications your child may have when infected. They recommend children receive the varicella vaccine to ward against the virus instead of throwing a pox party.
Pox parties: Crazy or convenient? Would you ever deliberately expose your child to chicken pox?
