Mom and Crying Baby Get Kicked Off Bus -- What Would You Do?
Before you had kids, you probably swore you’d never be one of those people with a screaming baby in a public place. After you had kids, well, maybe you changed your tune. Sometimes there’s just nothing you can do to get your kid to stop crying.
Well one Hillsboro, Oregon, bus driver took matters into her own hands and kicked a crying baby (and its mother, of course) off the bus. According to the Associated Press, the driver had initially told the mother to calm down her child because she couldn’t concentrate on driving with the loud noise, while other passengers watched the situation uncomfortably. After the child, who bystanders say is younger than two years old, continued crying, the driver stopped the bus and ordered the woman and her baby to get off. Several other passengers were upset about the driver’s actions and tried to defend the mother -- and the bus driver told them they could get off too. Afterward, the driver told a dispatcher that the baby wasn’t crying, but screaming, and that she couldn’t concentrate. The dispatcher told the driver that there isn’t anything they can do about crying babies because public transportation is, well, public!
The agency that runs mass transit in the Portland area, TriMet, responded to the incident, saying that it’s not its policy to remove women and children from buses. The driver has been put on administrative leave while TriMet investigates the incident.
What do you think of people being hard on parents of babies when they cry in public places? Has something like this ever happened to you?
