Are Our Babies Smarter Than We Thought? Photo: Thinkstock / The Bump
Okay, so most of us moms think our babies are geniuses, and here’s a little science to back it up. A new study, published in Science, analyzed how 12-month-olds responded to moving objects on a screen and, by following where and how long they looked, found that they correctly expected how the objects would move based on what they’d previously seen, even if it was slightly different that time around. Researchers say this suggests babies can reason complexly, that they’re able to gather information from multiple sources and form rational expectations for what will happen in the future.
Do you see evidence of “complex reasoning” in your baby?!
