Alternative Meds Can’t Help Cure Colic
Not sure how to soothe your colicky baby? According to a new review of studies published in the journal Pediatrics, there isn’t enough solid research available that shows any form complementary or alternative therapy used to treat colic actually works. Researchers evaluated past studies of infants with colic from birth to 16 weeks old, and of the many therapies they analyzed, they did find encouraging results for natural treatments like fennel extract and sugar solutions, but were quick to point out that this data still falls short of providing enough evidence to support medical recommendations.
If you’re still thinking of trying a natural remedy to help relieve your colicky child, first check with your baby’s pediatrician to make sure that whatever you want to try or use is safe.
