A Milestone for Earth: Meet the Seven Billionth Baby! Photo: CBS News
The world just got a little bit smaller – or at least, that’s what it feels like because the population just got bumped up to seven billion people. According the CBS News, The United Nations is using Monday, October 31st to mark the occasion since it’s impossible to tell when exactly the population will reach seven billion. In October 1999, the United Nations estimated that the world’s population reached six billion.
To celebrate the milestone, many babies born on midnight received gifts. At Manila’s Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, baby girl Danica May Camacho was welcomed into the world with cheers and plenty of presents including gift certificates and a cake with the words “7B Philippines” on it.
And even though it’s quite a feat that the world’s population has reached seven billion, experts have voiced concerns about the effect the world’s rapidly growing population would have on jobs, housing, food and the environment.
What do you think of the world’s population reaching that number? Scary?
