Not Your Average Politicians’ Names
Photo: PR Photos / The Bump With the Presidential election happening later this year and the Republican primaries in full swing, it got us thinking: Politicians these days do have some pretty unique names! The days of presidents with the names George, John and James might be numbered. Take a look at the names for presidential hopefuls (and our current president!):
Mitt Romney: Romney’s real name is Willard Milton Romney. He was named after his father’s best friend, J. Willard Marriott and his middle name comes from his father’s cousin, Milton, whose nickname was Mitt.
Newt Gingrich: Newt is a nickname for Newton. His full name is Newton Leroy Gingrich.
Barack Obama: President Obama was named after his father Barack Obama, Sr. His full name is Barack Hussein Obama II. Did you know he used to go by the nickname Barry when he was younger up until he was in college?
And what does that mean when babies right now become presidents in 40 or 50 years? Will we be seeing a Jacob, Ethan or Jayden in the White House? Or what about an Isabella, Sophia or Emma being the future POTUS? Hey, it could happen -- those are popular names for babies right now!
