Recall Alert: phil&teds “metoo” Clip-on Chair Photo: The Bump
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 54,000 units of the “metoo” clip-on chair by phil&teds. The chair can detach from surfaces, causing the user to fall. When the chair detaches, a child’s fingers can be caught between the bar and clamping mechanism, which could lead to amputation. In addition, the user instructions are not thorough, which can cause misuse of the chair. There have been 19 reports of the chair detaching, including five injuries. Two reports involved a child’s finger being severely pinched, lacerated, crushed or amputated, and three reports involved the chair detaching suddenly and the child hitting the table or floor. The chairs being recalled do not have black plastic spacers between the crossbar and clamps. The product was sold at retail stores like Buybuy Baby, Target and Toys “R” Us, and online at Amazon.com and philandteds.com from May 2006 to May 2011.
If you have one of these chairs, stop using the product immediately and contact the company to receive a free repair kit and revised user instructions. The company can be reached at (855) 652-9019 or through its website philandteds.com/support.
