Your Baby: Week 24

Baby's communication skills are rapidly developing, and she loves to repeat syllables -- including the extremely exciting "ma-ma" and "da-da." She squeals when she's happy and responds when you say her name. Depending on the tone you use, she may even be able to understand the word "no." All this babbling is the beginning of baby's future speech.

Handy baby
Baby's motor skills are rapidly developing. If a toy is within her reach, she'll rake it toward her, even if she can't actually grab it yet. She might also experiment by moving toys between her hands -- for baby, transferring objects from one hand to the other is like performing a magic trick.

To-do:
> Schedule baby's six-month checkup
> Cut down naptime
> Get familiar with vaccine reactions

[ tip ] With the AAP supporting a ban on mobile walkers because of their high injury rate, a safer option is a stationary walker like the ExerSaucer. It satisfies baby's curiosity while it builds her standing skills.
