With Greek origins, Iola is a girl’s name meaning “violet” or “beautiful lady.” The name Iola is a variation of the ancient name Iole. In Greek mythology, Iole was the daughter of the king of Oechalia, Eurytus. Her father organized an archery competition to see who was fit enough to marry his daughter. No one was able to beat Eurytus until the famous warrior, Heracles decided to take part.
